Loan Programs

Loans Made Simple for Delegates

At Wymar, we understand that relocating to a new country comes with a lot of moving parts — and we’re here to make your financial journey as smooth as possible. Whether you’re looking for a car loan, need help with everyday expenses, or want to get established with your first U.S. loan, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s What You’ll Need to Get Started:

Once you receive your Social Security Number, we’ll typically request:

  • A copy of your offer letter or a few recent paystubs.

  • Just 1–2 months to help us understand your financial foundation.

  • If you’re receiving housing or moving support, this can be helpful in the application process.

  • Since many delegates are still building U.S. credit, this helps us get a broader picture of your financial history.

  • We work with delegates every day who are just starting out in the U.S. credit system. Our team is here to guide you and offer solutions that fit your unique situation.

You’re Not in This Alone

Our friendly lending team is experienced in working with delegates and is always just a call or message away. We’ll walk you through the steps, answer your questions, and help you feel confident in your choices.

U.S. Banking Terms with European Equivalent

We know many of our delegates come from different banking systems, and some U.S. terms and processes may be new. This guide answers common questions and compares U.S. banking with what you may be used to in Europe (especially Germany, Austria, and Switzerland).

    • U.S. Practice: A valid passport, visa or residency documents, such as Social Security Number (if available), and proof of U.S. address (such as a lease agreement, utility bill, or letter of employment).

    • Difference Abroad: In Germany, most accounts can be opened with just an ID and proof of residence. The U.S. requires stricter identity verification (KYC/Patriot Act).

    • U.S. Practice: A credit union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution. Profits go back to members in the form of lower fees and better rates.

    • Difference Abroad: In Germany, a similar concept exists with Volksbanken or Raiffeisenbanken, which are cooperative banks owned by members.

    • U.S. Practice: Every U.S. bank or credit union has a 9-digit routing number that identifies the institution, plus your account number.

    • Difference Abroad: In Germany, you use IBAN + BIC for transfers. The routing number + account number combination serves the same role in the U.S. as IBAN does in Europe.

    • U.S. Practice: Wire transfers are used to send money between banks. They often have fees ($15-$40) and may take 1-3 business days.

    • Difference Abroad: In Europe, SEPA transfers are low-cost or free and usually arrive same day or next day.

    • U.S. Practice: Checks are still widely used for rent, bill payments, and personal payments.

    • Difference Abroad: In Germany and most of Europe, checks are rare - people rely on bank transfers or debit card payments.

    • U.S. Practice:

      • Debit Card: Money comes directly from your checking account.

      • Credit Card: Lets you borrow up to a limit, repay monthly, and build a credit history (important in the U.S. for loans, renting apartments, etc.).

    • Difference Abroad: In Germany, debit cards (EC-Karte/Girocard) are most common. Credit cards exist but are used less frequently.

    • U.S. Practice: ACH (Automated Clearing House) transfers are used for direct deposits (payroll), bill payments, and recurring transfers. They are slower than SEPA - often 2-3 business days.

    • Difference Abroad: In Europe, direct debits (Lastschriftverfahren) and SEPA transfers are faster and more standardized.

    • U.S. Practice: Credit union deposits are insured by the NCUA (National Credit Union Administration) up to $250,000 per member, per institution.

    • Difference Abroad: In Germany, deposits are insured up to €100,000 through Einlagensicherung system.

    • U.S. Practice: If you spend more than your balance, the credit union may cover the payment, but you could be charged overdraft fees unless you opt out or link to savings.

    • Difference Abroad: In Germany, many accounts allow limited overdrafts (Dispo-Kredit) with interest, instead of flat fees.

    • U.S. Practice: International wires are the most common method. They take 3-5 days and may have high fees. Some people use online services (e.g. Wise, Revolut, Paypal) for faster and cheaper transfers.

    • Difference Abroad: SEPA transfers are cheap, fast and standardized across the EU.

    • U.S. Practice: Your credit score affects your ability to rent an apartment, buy a car, or even get a job. Using a credit card responsibly helps build this history.

    • Difference Abroad: In Germany, SCHUFA tracks creditworthiness, but everyday life is less dependent on it compared to the U.S.
